North Carolina Traffic Tickets

Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Points

There are two point systems that have to be examined for those who have received a traffic ticket in North Carolina. Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Points is what is used to determine whether an individual license is eligible to continue to drive in the State of North Carolina.

Typically, an individual without a prior revocation during the prior three (3) years is eligible to drive until they receive twelve (12) DMV Points during a three (3) year experience period (rolling three (3) years). Those with prior revocations are generally suspended upon receiving eight (8) DMV points during an experience period. Once a licensee is revoked all North Carolina DMV points are eliminated and set back to zero (0).
