Prayer For Judgment Continued (PJC)

A Prayer for Judgment Continued is a judge ordered outcome that enables those charged with a traffic violations, speeding ticket, or other criminal violation to escape a conviction, available only in North Carolina. Essentially a Prayer for Judgment (PJC) is a permanent "stay" on the entry of judgment against the Defendant; although, judgment can be entered at a later date for various reasons.

For traffic tickets or other moving violations, an individual may receive two (2) PJCs every five (5) years without receiving DMV points. Additionally, each insured household can receive one (1) Prayer for Judgment every three (3) years without the insured receiving insurance points.

If an individual (or more than one person in a household) receives more than one (1) PJC during the three (3) year experience period, the insurance points for both violations will be assessed against the insured. This is one of the main reasons that a Prayer for Judgment should be used sparingly.

The North Carolina legislature has placed limitations on offenses that are eligible for Prayer for Judgments. For example, a Prayer For Judgment (PJC) will not be recognized with by the DMV if received for an offense such as: Passing a Stopped School Bus, Driving While Impaired (DWI / DUI), traffic tickets for those charged > 25 mph over the speed zone, and others. Moreover, those who have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are not eligible to receive a Prayer for Judgment Continued (PJC).
